Busy Busy Busy and A Little About My BIL

That's what it's been like around here this week. I thought I was still working for a few days there and then it dawned on me that I was a stay at home MeMe now. We have had dentist appts. this week, school shopping for one kiddo, and me and my MIL spent all day on Tuesday at the hospital with my BIL.

So I think I would like to tell about my sweet BIL today. I haven't wrote about him yet so I think I would like to tell all my blog friends about the "one" of the SWEETEST men you will ever know.

Meet Kevin......AKA: Bo

Kevin, whom I call "Bo" has a mental illness called Paranoid Schizaphrenic (spelling???). I want to tell about Kevin because the experience we, as a whole family (hubby, me, mom (MIL), sister (SIL), even our children have to go through just to get assistance with Kevin is by far the most difficult thing our family and millions of families in this world have to deal with. Unless you have mega bucks and medical insurance people like Kevin are hidden like they have the plaqued. Kevin does have insurance now but there have been times in the past that he has not. Therefore, he has went to some doozy of some hospitals.

When Kevin gets overwhelmed, stressed, or worries a lot over something he may or may not get confused and either, "forget" his medication or "just stop taking" his medication. As long as Kevin is on his meds he is just like you and me. Now when he is not on his meds he loves me a 100 times a day and he is going to be a preacher. Never has Kevin ever been mean or violent when he is not on his meds. He is just overly loving, emotional, and very aggitated! His dad, my FIL, my childrens grandpa, and my MIL's ex husband had the same thing. He was the first SWEEETEST EVER man I ever met. He is now gone to be with Jesus so he is no longer suffering with this awful illness.

So this past week Kevin forgot to take his meds and we always know when this happens so off we went to the hospital on Tuesday to be with Kevin in this tiny room in the back of the emergency room where nobody would walk by to see him and be bothered by him. We sat there from 11:00 am to 10:40 pm that day. It took a good 4 hours to even see a doctor, then after that he saw a crisis doctor ( not right word). Kevin would voluntary go to a mental hospital to get his meds back on track and then released like he was normal. There are no decent places for people with mental illnesses to go hang out for fun, there are no housing with supervision to check on them to see if they need anything or they are doing ok with meds etc. I get so frustrated because we all love Kevin dearly and the reality is he wants to be on his own and to be responsible for himself but there is not any decent apartments, housing for him. They have homes they call group homes. Well, maybe a few of these are good places but most of those places are not good environments for people like Kevin.

I love Kevin not just because he is special, but because he is loving, kind to everyone, loves the Lord, loves his family, loves to work, he is funny, and he is just like his dad. He is very special to us and we love him very much.

So anyway, I just wanted to introduce you all to my sweet BIL Kevin and also to ask my bloggy friends to remember him and people like him in your prayers.

  2. How very nice to "Meet" Kevin. I had no idea the struggles he faces, nor the challenges you as a family overcome, but I DO know, your reward is great in Heaven and that he is a blessing to you. Praying!

    Blessings,
